King Charles is a local independent feature length film from the Tampa bay area. The film was produced by Inspiration Films and N-Take Films and it was written by Rod Grant and Directed by Nicholas Naylor. King Charles was shot by Hashtag Cinema’s very own Adam Ekblad and it was edited again by Hashtag Cinema’s very own Devin Payne.
It was a great film with a strong story that centers around a brash detective that when presented with losing his partner to the violence of the drug world goes on a self-destructive rampage trying to find her killer. Needless to say Hashtag Cinema was very happy to take this project on. This film presented most of the challenges that go along with making a feature film. Having to deal with long 12 even some times 14 hour long shoot days. Doing last minuet blocking and lighting changes under rigorous time restraints. Even having to come up with some out of the box ways of moving the camera for certain action shots that needed to be filmed.
On the post production side this was the largest project Devin had ever edited sitting at a whopping one hour and 30 minutes. Having to tackle such a long running time forced Devin to come up with a new way to organize his project files and ultimately how he pieces together his narrative projects in the edit. These challenges provided a valuable learning experience for Adam and Devin and ultimately made them even better film makers.
King Charles is an official selection of the Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF) and will be screening March 2nd at Movico Centro Ybor. King Charles will also be available for DVD and Streaming Percuss at a later date.
